In fact, Japanese cuisine is the sweetheart of healthy food fanatics. Needless to say, it’s a staple in every healthy food menu, and obviously, there’s an ever-growing affection towards this cuisine. Yes, Japanese food is super healthy, and it’s pretty delicious too. To be honest, I do love this unique cuisine, and so it was only a matter of time before I added Japanese food to my weekly menu.

This Japanese garlic fried rice is, obviously, loaded with garlic, and one of the most loved Japanese dishes. I really love to pair this rice dish with a protein based dish cooked in Japanese style. Well, that’s going to be another post.

Japanese rice recipe

What is Japanese garlic fried rice?

As I mentioned, it’s a simple fried rice loaded with the amazing flavor of garlic. I used about 10 cloves of garlic in this recipe, which, you might think, is bit too garlicky. Half of the garlic is sliced very thinly to make garlic chips, while the rest gets finely chopped to go into the fried rice. Trust me, the garlic chips were so crispy & yum, I just couldn’t stop munching on them.

So, the first step is making garlic chips. Once they’re ready, start with making this Japanese rice. First, heat up a little butter to fry chopped garlic. Butter is a must in this recipe, and as you know, the combo of garlic and butter is just phenomenal.

Next up, add lightly whisked eggs. Scramble them quickly over high heat. Once the eggs are cooked, stir in cooked rice and soy sauce. Again, ideally, the rice for this Japanese garlic fried rice needs to be cooked separately (a day ahead if possible), and store in the refrigerator.

You’ll also need to stir in some chopped parsley and ground black pepper. Give it another quick stir fry, and the best Japanese fried rice to ready to be served.

The key is to stir fry fried rice in a large pan preferably a wok over high heat. And if you don’t like parsley, feel free to sub with spring onions or scallions. This bowl of fried rice with a generous topping of crunchy garlic chips and spring onions is my current obsession. Easy to make, healthy, and so delicious!

  • ¼ cup chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Chopped spring onions scallions, to garnish
