Love homemade pizza but hate how much time you need to spend in the kitchen to cook it from scratch? Luckily, there’s an easy way to enjoy your favorite fast food at home that only requires a few minutes of cooking time.

Vietnamese pizza, a very popular street food in Vietnam is all about grilled rice paper topped with a delicious mixture of egg, spring onions (scallions), dried shrimp, pink sausage, sweet chili sauce and mayonnaise. Well, I’ve replaced a few classic ingredients with easily available ones, so you can enjoy a super crispy and delicious pizza in the comfort of your home.

The base of the pizza is, obviously, rice paper. Rice paper is grilled slowly so it’ll turn crispy and delicious. And this is the most exciting part of making this street pizza. While the rice paper is grilling, you’ll need to add the toppings.

Extra special toppings to make this Vietnamese pizza extra delicious

Clearly, this pizza is topped with a few classic Vietnamese ingredients. And the ‘must ingredient’ in this recipe is lightly whisked egg alongside spring onions or scallions. Sprinkle some chopped spring onions (green part) on the rice paper, and pour the whisked egg. Carefully, spread the egg mixture so each and every corner of the rice paper is completely covered.

As the rice paper is grilled, the egg will also cook. Now, it’s time to add the rest of the toppings. This includes chopped pink sausage, dried shrimp, chili paste, sweet chili sauce and mayonnaise.

With chili paste, add more or less depending on your taste. Pink sausage is traditionally used in making Vietnamese pizza, but I substituted it with chopped cooked bacon. Spam is also a great alternative. If you don’t want to add meat to your pizza, canned tuna is a delicious option. Dried shrimp is easily available from Asian shops. Sweet chili sauce and mayonnaise add that extra flavor kick to this street pizza. Add more or less depending on your taste.

When the egg is cooked and all the other ingredients are heated through, you can fold it and serve it just like the street vendors do.

What a fabulous way to enjoy one of the most popular street foods of Vietnam!
