How To Make Mexican Meatballs
Well, you’ll need minced meat, bread, spices, and herbs. Plus, the right amount of salt and pepper.
In this recipe, the classic Mexican spices shine through creating a depth of flavor. Remember Mexican seasoning is the backbone of this dish which is actually different from taco seasoning. You can either use store bought seasoning or whip up from scratch like I did. And trust me, you can make it easily with spices that you already have in your pantry. Ground cumin, smoked paprika, dried oregano, chipotle pepper or red chili flakes, onion powder and garlic powder.
To make the meatball mixture, you’ll need to combine together minced beef and pork, Mexican spice mix, egg, breadcrumbs, parsley and mint. And don’t forget to season. At this stage, roll them into small meatballs and fry them in a pan.
Now let’s talk about the sauce for this Mexican meatballs recipe. Start with heating a little oil in the same pan. Quickly fry some chopped garlic followed by red bell peppers and jalapeño. Once they’re tender, stir in ground cumin, paprika, oregano and chili flakes.
You’ll also need to add in some canned tomatoes that’s going to make the sauce so vibrant and flavorful. Let this simmer for about 5 minutes before you add in the meatballs. Finally, cook the meatballs in the sauce.
Warm up some tortillas, add a dollop of sour cream and chop up some avocados to serve with Mexican meatballs. Oh so delicious!
