It will only take 10 minutes to do the prep work and combine all the ingredients in the instant pot. All you need to do is turn on the pot and let it do the hard work for you. And while the delicious beef curry is simmering in instant pot, you can prepare a few side dishes to go with it.

Here are the step by step instructions to make this instant pot beef curry. I love the way this curry turns out to be so luscious and rich even without sautéing onions and other ingredients. And that’s why I’m obsessed with it.

All you need to do to make this instant pot beef curry is place all the ingredients in the instant pot and pressure cook for about 20 minutes. Make sure you check the manual before you turn on the instant pot. If the sauce is too thin, simmer the sauce over sauté mode.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1- inch fresh ginger peeled and chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves peeled and chopped
  • 1 large tomato finely chopped
  • 1 cinnamon stick or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 kg gravy or chuck steak or braising steak cut into 2.5 cm cubes
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • ½ cup water
  • Chopped coriander cilantro leaves, for garnish
  • Cooked basmati rice for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Place onions, ginger, garlic, tomato, ground turmeric, ground coriander, garam masala, red chili powder, beef, lemon juice and water in instant pot.
  • Season with salt.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Seal the instant pot lid.
  • Cook on high pressure for 20 minutes.
  • Let the pressure release naturally.
  • Open the lid.
  • If the sauce is too thin, transfer beef to a bowl and then simmer the sauce on sauté mode until it has thickened.
  • Garnish with chopped (coriander leaves) cilantro if you like.

Serving suggestions:-
  • Cooked rice (preferably basmati)
  • Naan or roti
Variations:-
Replace beef with your favorite protein like shrimp (prawns), chicken, pork or lamb. But remember the cooking times may vary. For a vegetarian version, try chickpeas, tofu or cauliflower.

    I was cynical about this recipe, just seemed too easy. Oh my word it’s magnificent! I didn’t have any fresh tomato so used 2tbl spoons of tomato puree ( paste) on top , not stirred through. Will definitely be making again 10/10 for easiness and flavour.
