Instant Pot Beef Curry

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1- inch fresh ginger peeled and chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves peeled and chopped
  • 1 large tomato finely chopped
  • 1 cinnamon stick or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 kg gravy or chuck steak or braising steak cut into 2.5 cm cubes
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • ½ cup water
  • Chopped coriander cilantro leaves, for garnish
  • Cooked basmati rice for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Place onions, ginger, garlic, tomato, ground turmeric, ground coriander, garam masala, red chili powder, beef, lemon juice and water in instant pot.
  • Season with salt.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Seal the instant pot lid.
  • Cook on high pressure for 20 minutes.
  • Let the pressure release naturally.
  • Open the lid.
  • If the sauce is too thin, transfer beef to a bowl and then simmer the sauce on sauté mode until it has thickened.
  • Garnish with chopped (coriander leaves) cilantro if you like.

Serving suggestions:-
  • Cooked rice (preferably basmati)
  • Naan or roti
Variations:-
Replace beef with your favorite protein like shrimp (prawns), chicken, pork or lamb. But remember the cooking times may vary. For a vegetarian version, try chickpeas, tofu or cauliflower.
