Green Bean Casserole, With A Twist

Let’s make a classic Thanksgiving side, but with a few twists to take it to the next level. To make the traditional casserole, you will only need 3 ingredients - green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and fried onions. I personally love this trio, but let’s add a few extra ingredients to make it phenomenal.

I love the addition of simple flavorful ingredients like garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and fresh or dried herbs when it comes to cooking at home. It literally makes the dish so delicious. This casserole is also easy to plan and make ahead, reducing your kitchen time on the big day. While it’s baking in the oven, you will get time to prep other dishes or set the table before your guests arrive.

Notes

  • Green beans - Canned green beans are a great no-cook alternative to frozen or fresh beans. Apart from blanching, steaming is also a great option to cook them. Whole or cut green beans can be used in this recipe.
  • Butter - Substitute butter with oil if you like.
  • Mushrooms - Sliced mushrooms are a great addition. Sauté them alongside onions.
  • More topping ideas - Breadcrumbs, crushed potato chips, cracker crumbs.
