Garlic bread grilled cheese. There’s nothing like warm cheesy toasted bread flavored with garlic butter. Crisp and golden, it’s the perfect way to level up your favorite grilled cheese sandwich. Enjoy a cafe style brunch in the comfort of your home.
It’s a fact that we spend nearly a third of our lives enjoying good food that are delicious as well as nutritious. And a warm toastie on a cold winter morning is the perfect excuse to wake up on the right side of the bed. The contrasting crisp and soft textures definitely makes it a popular choice.
Whatever you call it, grilled cheese, cheese toastie or cheese sandwich, my weekly menu isn’t complete without this signature dish. And sometimes, I like to customize these toasties with some delicious twists. And my ultimate favorite is garlic bread grilled cheese.
Homemade garlic butter slathered on bread slices and then filled with cheese. Even describing this flavorful toastie is mouthwatering. The ooey gooey cheese is my favorite element in this recipe.
Ingredients
Bread – Use good quality bread, white, wholemeal or multigrain, for better taste and texture.
Garlic – Fresh garlic is a must in this recipe, it’s one of the key ingredients imparting the incredible flavor.
Butter – Softened or melted butter that can be easily combined with garlic and parsley. Also make sure you use the unsalted variety.
Parsley – I used fresh chopped parsley, one of the my favorite flavors in this garlic bread grilled cheese recipe. Feel free to substitute it with other herbs like mint or rosemary.
Cheese – Mozzarella is my favorite choice here, but any easy-to-melt cheese like cheddar will work.
How To Make Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese
Make garlic butter: Just combine together melted or softened butter, fresh garlic and parsley. Add a pinch of salt to season it.
Toast grilled cheese: Spread the garlic butter on one side of the slices. To make this over the stove, a little butter in a pan and place the one slice with the buttered side down in the pan. While it’s toasting, top it with grated cheese. Now, place another bread slice on top. When one side is crisp, flip over to brown the other side.

Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese | Video
Garlic bread flavored, cheese loaded grilled cheese sandwich!
Ingredients
Garlic butter mixture:
- 1/4 cup melted or soft butter
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon parsley, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Grilled cheese:
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 bread slices
- 1/2 cup grated mozzarella
Instructions
- To make garlic butter mixture, combine together butter, minced garlic and parsley in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Spread one side of a bread slice with one tablespoon garlic butter mixture. Repeat with the remaining bread slices. Set aside.
- Place a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add 1 tablespoon butter. When butter starts to melt, place bread buttered side down in the pan.
- Top with 2 tablespoons mozzarella. Top with another bread slice, buttered side facing upwards.
- When one side is golden, flip over to cook the other side until golden. This will take about 4-5 minutes. Remove the toasted grilled cheese from pan.
- Repeat with the remaining buttered bread slices, butter and cheese. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Coat the bread slices with thin even layer of garlic butter to avoid uneven browning.
- When making grilled cheese, I always prefer stovetop over the press. That’s the sure fire way to ensure oozing cheese when you pull it apart. And it’s my secret trick to get the perfect texture - crisp on the outside, soft on the inside.
- Cook grilled cheese low and slow. It’s the one and only tip for maximum crispiness. Depending on the thickness of the bread, it will take about 3-4 minutes.
