The fun in making croutons from scratch is that you can add your favorite bread and the best seasonings in your recipe. Honestly, no matter whether you use homemade or store bought bread, the freshly prepared crunchy goodness is simply irresistible. Plus, you know the ingredients going into your bread.

With this recipe, you can start from the basics and then upgrade it with extra seasonings. I opted for a simple seasoning with olive oil, garlic powder, and oregano. And just a touch of salt and pepper. The bread can be of any variety from sourdough to plain sandwich loaf. With the cooking method, you can either bake or air fry until crisp.

Slice and season - Simply cut the bread into cubes. But you can also tear them into small pieces. Drizzle with oil, toss with the seasonings and then it goes onto the baking tray.

  • Paprika -  Combine together paprika and your favorite dried herb for extra depth of flavor.
  • Parmesan - Add grated parmesan to garlic powder and oregano to take to the cheesy level.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 loaf of bread cut into ¾-inch cubes
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 200 C or 400 F.
  • Combine together olive oil, oregano and garlic powder in a small bowl.
  • Place bread cubes on a baking sheet.
  • Toss with oil-garlic mixture.
  • Spread in a single layer.
  • Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until crisp and golden.
