Servings 20 sausage rolls

Ingredients

Meat filling:

  • 500 g minced ground meat beef, pork or chicken
  • 1 small onion peeled and grated
  • ¼ cup grated carrot
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 garlic peeled and minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons chopped basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Other ingredients:

  • 5 tortillas flour, corn, wholemeal or gluten free
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 200 C / 400 F. Line a large baking tray with baking paper.
  • To make the beef filling, combine together minced meat, onion, carrot, breadcrumbs, garlic, paprika, cayenne pepper, tomato sauce (ketchup) and basil leaves in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Divide the mixture into 5 equal portions. Set aside.
  • Lay one tortilla on a flat surface. Place ⅕th of the meat mixture along one side of the tortilla, shaping mince into a long sausage shape.
  • Roll up tortilla to enclose filling, finishing seam side down. Cut into 5 pieces.
  • Repeat with the remaining meat mixture and tortillas.
  • Place rolls seam side down on the baking tray.
  • Brush with egg.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tortillas are golden and cooked through.

Notes

  • More veggies can be added to the filling including zucchini, celery and broccoli
  • Substitute basil with parsley or dried herbs if you like
  • If you don’t like eggs, use milk
  • Poppy seeds are a great substitute for sesame seeds
