Smoky, sticky BBQ chicken wings coated in a rich, tangy barbecue marinade, and baked or grilled to perfection. Perfect for gatherings, game nights, or as a delicious family meal.
Preheat oven to 200ºC (400ºF). Line a rimmed baking tray with baking paper.
For whole wings, separate wingettes and drummettes at the joints, and discard the wing tips.
Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels.
Marinate chicken:
To make the BBQ marinade, combine together barbecue sauce, ketchup (tomato sauce), brown sugar, paprika, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, garlic powder, ground black pepper, oil, salt and dried chili flakes (if using).
Reserve 2 tablespoons marinade.
Place the wings in a bowl, and add the marinade. Toss until the wings are evenly coated.
Marinate in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, if you have time.
Bake the wings:
Place the wings on the baking tray.
Bake for about 35-45 minutes, brushing with the reserved marinade halfway through, until the wings are browned and cooked through.
The thickest part of the chicken should reach an internal temperature of at least 74ºC (165ºF), measured with a thermometer without touching the bone.
Serve with barbecue sauce.
Notes
Storing leftovers - Allow the wings to cool and refrigerate them in a covered container. Use within three to four days.
