Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
Add onions, and sauté, stirring occasionally, for 2-3 minutes or until they are soft and translucent.
Add garlic. Sauté, stirring, for 1 minute or until fragrant.
Add tomato paste and canned tomatoes. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 4-5 minutes or until the mixture thickens slightly.
Add cumin, paprika and chili powder. Season with salt and pepper. Sauté, stirring, for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Set aside.
