Tender and moist meatballs with classic Swedish cream sauce, mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam is an absolute favorite among IKEA lovers. It’s lip-smacking and addictingly good!
Last month, they released their recipe to make the best IKEA meatballs at home, and I just couldn’t wait to recreate this iconic dish for my family. Super easy to make and so delicious!
Swedish meatballs
A simple combo of minced or ground beef and pork is the base of this meatball recipe. Although this is the classic combo, you can also substitute with minced chicken. To amp up the flavor, this mince mixture is incorporated with garlic, egg, and ground all spice. Again, you’ll also add in some breadcrumbs to act as the binding agent.
To make these meatballs super moist, I added a secret ingredient - fresh bread processed into crumbs. Combine everything together and roll out balls. Trust me, this recipe is spot on. And needless to say, so delicious.
Now, the next step - cooking these Swedish meatballs. Pan fry the meatballs in a little oil until it’s sealed and browned on all sides. Then transfer it to the oven and cook for another 30 minutes.
Swedish cream sauce
You’ll need to make the cream sauce in the same pan you fried the meatballs. Strain the pan juice and pour in the stock, bring it to a simmer, and add cream, soy sauce and Dijon mustard. To thicken the sauce, you’ll need to add a touch of flour.
The piping hot meatballs taste amazing straight out of the oven. Perfect with the cream sauce, mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam.
