Banana fritters or pazham pori – If you’re craving for something sweet, make these banana fritters. A simple yet delicious snack made with the humble bananas. Crisp on the outside and soft inside, this is ideal for your afternoon snack or any time of the day.
I was born and brought up in a small town in one of the southern states of India, Kerala. The culinary story of this beautiful state nicknamed God’s own country won’t be complete if I don’t tell you about one of its signature snacks, banana fritters, or pazham pori (as the locals call it).
These classic banana fritters brings together the perfect blend of textures – crispy outside, soft inside. Get the batter right, and you’ll be rewarded with perfectly crispy fritters.
If you’ve never made them before, try it now. Serve them hot with a cuppa for that authentic street food experience!

The ultimate classic snack from Kerala made with bananas. These banana fritters are usually made with ripe plantains. As plantains are not available here, I use regular large bananas in the recipe. The fritters come out perfect all the time. Bananas, coconut and ground cardamom filling encased in crispy puff pastry. Finish off with a generous dusting of icing sugar. Heavenly! Cutlets made with banana. Savory doughnuts made with urad dal makes for the perfect snack or even breakfast. The ultimate traditional snack perfect when it's raining outside. Serve with a cup of tea for that authentic taste. Green gram, jaggery and coconut mixture hidden in beautiful yellow, crispy shells.
