Honey butter toast. Sweet toast with crispy caramelized layer. The ultimate mix of butter, brown sugar and honey makes the crisp outer layer contrasting the soft inside. The simplicity of this toast combined with its heavenly deliciousness can’t be beat.
When it comes to creating the best toast, in my opinion, minimal is the keyword. Apart from achieving the perfect crispy exterior crust, thoughtfully added two or three ingredients can level up the flavor profile without much effort. The goal is to choose ingredients that highlight the sweetness and taste of humble bread.
Honey butter toast. Decadent sweet toast with caramelized honey butter crust. It’s simply the best! I really love how the crisp exterior contrasts the soft inside. Honey, butter and brown sugar adds an unexpectedly sweet flavor to the toast making it totally irresistible.
Honey Butter Toast Recipe
First, the bread. Shokupan, Japanese milk bread, is used in the original recipe. As it’s not easily available, I am going with the second best option – brioche. It’s very similar to shokupan in terms of texture and sweetness.
Next, the honey butter mixture that’s going to be the topping on the toast. Just combine together softened butter, brown sugar and honey. While butter is the quintessential toast ingredient, brown sugar brings that crispy caramelized color and texture. And the subtle sweetness from honey – heavenly!
The final step to making the delicious honey butter toast – spread the honey butter mixture on the bread slices and toast. And in this case, make it over the stovetop.
Trust me, the perfectly caramelized sweetness is to die for! I like to serve this with a generous sprinkle of crushed nuts and a scoop of ice cream. Divine!
