Add 1 tablespoon oil or ghee to a frying pan over high heat.
Add beef and fry in batches, for 2-3 minutes or until browned on all sides.
Remove from heat and tip into slow cooker.
Meanwhile add remaining oil to the same pan.
When hot, add onions, garlic and ginger. Sauté, stirring occasionally, for about 2-3 minutes or until the onions are brown.
Add turmeric, coriander, garam masala, cumin and red chili powder. Sauté, stirring, for a minute or until fragrant.
Add beef broth (stock). Stir. Bring to a boil. Simmer for about 2 minutes.
Transfer to the slow cooker.
Add beef.
Add cinnamon stick and bay leaf. Season with salt.
Add coriander leaves. Stir. Cover the slow cooker with lid.
Cook for 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high.
Garnish with coriander (cilantro) leaves.
Serve with naan or rice.
