Ingredients

  • 3 raw bananas
  • ¼ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 - 2 dried red chillies broken into small pieces
  • 1 shallot or small onion sliced
  • A sprig of curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

To peel the bananas

  • Cut off the stem end of the bananas. Then, use a sharp knife to make a vertical slit on the bananas. Make sure you don’t cut through them. Now, use your fingers to open the outer skin. Slice the bananas lengthwise. Set aside.

To prepare the stir fry

  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan. Add mustard seeds, and let it splutter. Throw in curry leaves and dried red chillies, and fry for a few seconds. Now, add the sliced onions, and fry until they get a brown color.
  • Add the sliced bananas. Sprinkle with ground turmeric and enough salt. Stir well. Cover with a lid, and cook, stirring occasionally, until done.
  • Serve banana stir fry with rice.
