Ingredients

Cook broccoli:

  • 1 large whole head broccoli broken into florets
  • Salt to taste

Cheese sauce:

  • 1 cup heavy (thickened) cream
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Place a large pot of salted water over medium-high heat. Season with salt.
  • Add broccoli florets. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until tender. Drain.
  • Alternatively, you can steam the florets.
  • Place cream in a saucepan over medium-low heat.
  • When hot, whisk in grated cheddar.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Whisk continuously and cook until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  • Pour cream sauce over broccoli before serving.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

  • Broccoli - I used approximately 4 cups broccoli florets.
  • Extra heat - Add red chili flakes.
  • Other vegetables - Use the cream sauce as a topping for other vegetables like potatoes, cauliflower, asparagus, green beans and broccolini.
