Place rinsed rice in a large bowl.
Soak for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Drain and transfer to a food processor.
Pour ½ cup water grind to a smooth batter.
Add coconut and grind to a smooth batter.
Transfer batter to a large bowl.
Pour ¾ cup water.
Season with salt.
Meanwhile, heat a large pan or tala over medium-high heat.
When the pan is hot, brush with oil.
Pour a ladleful of batter on the pan. Swirl the pan to spread the batter.
Cook for about 1-2 minutes.
Remove dosa from pan. Repeat with the remaining batter.
Serve with your favorite side.
