Meatballs With Cream Sauce

Soft meatballs in mustard flavored cream sauce to serve with pasta, rice, garlic bread, or mashed potatoes

Ingredients

Meatballs:

  • 500 g ground or minced beef or your favorite
  • ¼ cup grated onions squeeze out water
  • 1 garlic clove peeled and minced
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Cooking spray
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Stroganoff sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 garlic peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish:

  • Chopped parsley leaves

Serve:

  • Pasta rice, garlic bread, noodles or mashed potato

Instructions

Meatballs:

  • Preheat oven to 200 C / 400 F. Line a baking sheet with baking paper. 
  • Combine together ground (minced) meat, onions, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs and paprika in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Roll out approximately 16 meatballs.
  • Place meatballs on the baking tray in a single layer. Spray with cooking oil.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes or until cooked through.
  • Alternatively, fry meatballs, turning occasionally, for about 8-10 minutes or until brown all over and cooked through. 

Stroganoff:

  • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  • Add onions and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes or until the onions are soft.
  • Add tomato paste, Dijon mustard and stock. Stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Bring to a boil. Simmer for about 3 minutes.
  • Add meatballs. Simmer for about 3 minutes or until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Stir in sour cream. Heat through.
  • Garnish with parsley.
  • Serve with your favorite side - pasta, rice, garlic bread, noodles, mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • You can add spinach or mushrooms to this dish if you like.
