Ingredients

Fish tikka masala:

  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 dried bay leaf
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger ginger paste
  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoon ground coriander coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder Kashmiri chili powder preferred
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste tomato purée
  • ¼ cup canned tomatoes or 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ¼ cup fresh heavy cream thickened cream
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon dried fenugreek leaves kasuri methi
  • ¼ cup chopped coriander cilantro leaves
  • Water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Fish tikka:

  • Make fish tikka according to the recipe instructions. Recipe link just below this recipe.

Fish tikka masala:

  • Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add bay leaf and sauté for a few seconds. Add onions. Sauté, stirring occasionally, for 2-3 minutes or until browned. Add ginger. Sauté, stirring constantly, for a minute or until fragrant.
  • Add ground turmeric, ground coriander and red chili powder. Sauté, stirring constantly, for a minute. Add tomato paste, and sauté for 1 minute. Add canned tomatoes. Sauté, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes or until tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  • Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes. Stir in lemon juice and cream. Pour in enough water to make thick sauce. Season with salt. Simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add garam masala, kasuri methi and coriander (cilantro) leaves. Stir to combine. Add fish tikka. Stir. Heat through. Garnish with more coriander (cilantro) leaves if you like.
