Here is my take on the old classic mushroom sauce.
When you plan to throw a steak on the barbecue next time, slice up some mushrooms as well to make this rich sauce. It’s worth the effort. You can find the whole recipe here.

Servings
Ingredients
- 4 - 6 button mushrooms sliced
- 1 medium red onion sliced
- 1 chicken or beef stock cube I used chicken cube
- 1 teaspoon plain flour
- 2 tablespoon red wine optional
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoon oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan, and fry onions and mushrooms.
- Add plain flour, and fry until the raw smell disappears.
- Now pour red wine, and then the stock cube along with black pepper. If the sauce is too thick, add a little water. Cook, covered, for about 10 – 15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
Notes
This recipe is for two servings. You can double or triple the recipe to make more.
If you are pan frying the steak, add the leftover juice to the sauce. This will enhance its flavor.
You can substitute stock cube with 1 cup stock (in the liquid form). Then you may not need extra water as listed in the ingredients

Simple and nice. I was looking forward to making mushroom ragout but will try this instead.
