What are flavored salts and how do you use them?
You might be very familiar with flavored bath salts, but have you ever tried gourmet flavored salts? Simply put, these are your regular sea salt infused with a variety of flavors. They are brilliantly created to amp up the flavor of your dish without the addition of other spices or flavors.
And in this recipe, I’m going to season chicken and sweet potatoes with just two ingredients- flavored salt and ground black pepper. Believe me, these two ingredients accentuate the flavors in this dish.
How to Make Easy Grilled Chicken Thighs and Sweet Potatoes
Succulent and juicy chicken thighs with a side of grilled sweet potatoes for your next meal. Both chicken thighs and sweet potatoes are seasoned with salt and pepper, and grilled to perfection. And the secret to this super flavorful grilled chicken? Flavored salts.
To make the chicken thighs, start with seasoning chicken with the flavored Merlot salt and pepper. Rub it into the both sides of chicken. You’ll also need to season the sweet potatoes, but this time I’m using charcoal infused Cypress Black Salt. This gives a lovely charcoal color and flavor to the potatoes.
After grilling them, you can sprinkle with more salt. I really love the lovely texture added by the larger flakes of the black salt. Again, feel free to customize these recipes with your favorite gourmet flavored salt.
With just two ingredients, this delicious meal is an upgraded version of your favorite grilled chicken thighs. Delicious!
Easy Grilled Chicken Thighs | Video
Easy grilled chicken thighs and sweet potatoes made with flavored salt
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs (1 kg)
- 1 large sweet potato, cut into 1/2” thick round slices
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Flavored salt or regular salt, to taste
- Ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat grill to low-medium heat.
- Season chicken with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Place chicken on the grill with smooth side up. Cover and cook for 15-18 minutes for bone-in thighs and 13-15 minutes for boneless thighs.
- Flip them over and cook, covered, for another 15-18 minutes. Remove from grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
- Place sweet potatoes in a bowl. Drizzle with oil. Toss. Season with salt and pepper.
- Arrange potato slices on the grill in a single layer. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes or until grill marks appear. Flip over and cook, covered, for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from grill. Serve with chicken.
