Forminhas (Indian canapes). Nothing beats flavorful canapes to add an extra delicious touch to your gatherings. Tossed with creamy mayo, this veg wonder looks fancy in tartlet shells or wonton cups. Top with smoked salmon or crispy bacon to take it to the next level. Is there a better way to kick off a lip-smacking feast?
With get-togethers and gatherings in full swing, you may require a few easy recipes that are big on flavor. The key to creating masterpieces and keep you well-organized for the big day relies one simple factor – ridiculously easy and quick dishes.
Let me introduce you to forminhas or Indian style veg canapés. A simple yet delicious combo of veggies and mayonnaise. So easy to make but super flavorful. To level up the flavor, I usually top them with fried chopped bacon or smoked salmon. Incredibly delicious!
How To Make Forminhas or Indian Canapes
Start with dicing a few vegetables including potatoes, green beans and carrots. Although these are the veggies used in the classic version, feel free to experiment with seasonal ingredients. The diced vegetables are cooked in salted boiling water until tender.
You’ll also need a handful of green peas to go with the other vegetables. As I am using frozen ones, I added them towards the end of cooking vegetables. Again, make sure the vegetables are not overcooked making them mushy. Mushy veggies are a big “no” in this forminhas recipe.
Once the vegetables are cooked, drain and set aside to cool completely. You can cook the veggies anyway you want – boil or steam. Either way, these canapés are going to taste amazingly delicious.
The final step of the recipe is combining together cooked vegetables and mayonnaise. Even though regular mayonnaise is the main ingredient of this recipe, you can experiment with flavors like chili mayo, avocado mayo etc.
And finally, the much needed touch of seasoning with salt and pepper. And done. Beautifully creamy canapes for your next gathering.
You can serve these canapés two ways. While mini tart shells or tartlets are the classic way, I prefer to scoop the veg mayo mixture into crispy wonton cups. Just because I really love the super crispy contrast of texture.
